Western Swing Music Deserves Better Stories
Mae Out West started as a radio show. Then a podcast. Playlists, broadcasts, old records, steel guitar, and me talking too much about Western Swing.

Now the website has writing on it too. This actually isn’t new territory for me. Back when I was Vice President of the Western Swing Society, I wrote regularly for the newsletter. I’ve also thrown a few pieces onto Medium over the years whenever I felt like saying something longer than a Facebook caption could hold.
So I figured it was time to give that side of things a proper home. I’ll be dropping artist pieces, reflections, overlooked music history, dancehall stories, and whatever else is rattling around in my head after spending too much time listening to old country records.
Some of these artists are famous. Some should have been. Some are the kind of names that make record collectors start talking louder after midnight.
That’s usually where the good stuff lives anyway. Part radio archive. Part music journal. Part ongoing love letter to Western Swing, honky tonk, and the strange beautiful world surrounding it.
Glad you’re here early.
❤️Mae
