Howdy and Mabuhay, friends!

Welcome back to Mae Out West.

Before country music got polished, a lot of it was loud, loose, sharp, funny, and built for dancing. Cliff Bruner was part of that world. In 1935, Milton Brown brought him into the Musical Brownies, where Bruner and Cecil Brower helped shape the double-fiddle sound that became part of Western Swing’s backbone.

The band recorded for Decca. Milton Brown died in a car accident in 1936. Bruner moved on, but that sound didn’t.

You can still hear it in Western Swing today.

Let’s listen to him along with other incredible western swing and honky tonk artist on Episode #34.

Settle in. We’re playing the good stuff.
